The 2023 Annual Founder’s Scholarship and Prize Scheme exemplifies ABUAD’s commitment to supporting students in need. This comprehensive financial aid program specifically targets underprivileged and indigent individuals, providing tuition-free education to 500 students who are facing severe financial challenges within each of the six undergraduate colleges. Eligibility for this scholarship is determined through rigorous verification of hardship, ensuring that support reaches those who need it the most.

In addition to these scholarships, ABUAD is dedicated to the overall welfare of its student population. As part of its broader financial assistance strategy, each of the 8,423 students at the university is provided with N100,000.00 for food supplies, ensuring that students have access to adequate nutrition during their studies. Furthermore, each of the 8,423 students at the university is provided with health emergency insurance valued at N50,000.00. This initiative is designed to alleviate financial hardships and promote the well-being of all students, reflecting ABUAD’s unwavering commitment to fostering a supportive and nurturing educational environment.

In October 2023, the economic landscape underwent significant changes due to the removal of government subsidies and the unification of the national currency. In light of these developments, the Founder/Chancellor made a pivotal decision to enhance the financial stability of the university staff by approving a comprehensive 35% salary increase for all employees across various divisions. This increase affected numerous areas, including the Multisystem Hospital, the Business School, the Farm, and the Industrial Park, reflecting a unified approach to improving employee compensation throughout the institution.

In addition to this substantial salary adjustment, the Federal Government announced a new living wage set at N70,000. Many institutions faced difficulties in implementing this wage, struggling to adhere to the new standard. Recognizing the challenges posed by this threshold, the Founder/Chancellor took an unprecedented step by opting to not only adopt the living wage but to raise it further by an additional 10%. Consequently, the new living wage was established at N77,000, surpassing the government’s baseline.

This thoughtful and generous decision exemplifies the Founder/Chancellor’s deep commitment to enhancing the financial well-being and quality of life for all university employees. It underscores a proactive approach to ensuring that staff members are supported during times of economic uncertainty, highlighting the institution’s dedication to fostering a thriving work environment.

The scholarship therefore enables all indigent students from low-income families especially the poorest every year to study free of charge all through the entire duration of their degree program at ABUAD. Furthermore, and in addition to scholarships, the Scheme provides annual prizes and emergency financial aid to students who have demonstrated financial need.

There are no limits to the number of financial support and aid awarded to students each year. Students who demonstrate financial need and are maintaining satisfactory GPA in their studies are automatically considered for financial aid under the Founder’s Award Scheme.

So far, the University has spent more than $US2.8Million in providing annual awards and financial aid to indigent and talented students.
