Aare Afe Babalola,SAN (Founder/Chancellor, ABUAD)
Through the Annual Founder’s Scholarship, Prize, and Award Scheme (ABUAD 9th Convocation Ceremonies 2021), ABUAD provides comprehensive financial aid to poor and indigent students. The Scheme provides tuition free education to two fresh students in each of the five undergraduate colleges based on proof of hardship. https://www.abuad.edu.ng/abuad-prizes-scholarship-and-awards-categories-2021/
The scholarship therefore enables more than 10 indigent students every year to study free of charge all through the entire duration of their degree program at ABUAD. Furthermore, and in addition to scholarships, the Scheme provides annual prizes and emergency financial aid to students who have demonstrated financial need. https://newsrand.com/2021/04/03/abuad-awards-n476-8m-scholarships-to-its-best-students-in-7-years-afe-babalola/
There are no limits to the number of financial support and aid awarded to students each year. Students who demonstrate financial need and are maintaining satisfactory GPA in their studies are automatically considered for financial aid under the Founder’s Award Scheme. https://nigeriannewsdirect.com/abuad-awards-n476-8m-scholarships-to-its-best-students-in-7-years-founder-afe-babalola/
2021-ABUAD-SCHOLARSHIP-AWARDS-AND-PRIZES-FOR-STUDENTSSo far, the University has spent more than $US1 Million in providing annual awards and financial aid to indigent and talented students. The different bursaries administered by the Office of the Bursar include:
- Emergency Food Supply Bank and Food Stamps: Students from low-income households can apply to access an emergency food bank which provides food supplies for students throughout the semester, for as long as hardship and need can be demonstrated. There are no other requirements to access the food bank other than immediate hardship and need. The Bursary also provides food stamps to eligible students which enables them to buy food at discounted rates during the entire academic year.
- Disabled Students Bursary: Disabled students from low income households can apply for up to N2,000,000 ($5,000) available to contribute to the cost of mobility access, healthcare and dyslexia diagnosis if their household income is less than N200,000.
- Housing Bursary: Students with a household income of N200,000 or under can apply for low-cost housing or housing support. The available support is to cover from 10-80 percent of the cost of housing at ABUAD so as to ensure access to affordable housing to enable them complete their studies.
- Placement and Internship Bursary: ABUAD is committed to a significant increase in internships, externships, and placements. To alleviate travel and housing cost that may hinder students from taking up placements that are outside ABUAD, students are eligble to apply for funding to support with travel costs on statutory placements if they are not receiving funding elsewhere. They need to provide proof of placement and demonstrate need. A standard award of N50,000-N200,000 will be provided to students with a household income of N200,000 or under.
