Programme on student food insecurity
The ABUAD Free Meal Program was set up by the Office of the Chancellor as a formalized strategy to combat food insecurity on campus.
The program provides free meals and food bursaries to students in need all through the academic session. In 2021, 25,000 meals were funded and 25,000 food parcels were distributed to students in need. Furthermore, since 2009, over 6500 students have been assisted with food bursaries.
This program allows students to focus on their studies without worrying about their next meal, thus increasing their chances to excel academically and ultimately obtain their degrees. The program has also contributed significantly to promoting food security and poverty reduction in our country.
The University also provides free meals to all students who are on campus during special occasions and events such as long holidays and religious ceremonies. This program provides emotional and financial support to such students and allows them to focus on their studies.
In addition to ABUAD Free Meal Program, the ABUAD Farm supplies discounted and affordable staple food items such as bread, milk and beverages across the campus.
In the same vein, apart from providing free food for both staff and students of the University, The Founder/Chancellor has taken a further step to provide food and palliative for the entire citizen of Ekiti State in 2020 during the covid-19 pandemic.
