ABUAD prioritizes procurement from local and sustainable sources. The ABUAD Ventures, the business arm of the University supplies more than 90 percent of the University’s needs, which allows the University to support locally sourced and sustainable products. The ABUAD Ventures consists of different business units which are located within the University premises. These include: ABUAD Bakery; ABUAD Printing Press; ABUAD Laundry; ABUAD Guest House; ABUAD Water Bottling Company; and ABUAD Catering Services. Furthermore, raw materials, including food, cosmetics, and furniture, are sourced locally from the ABUAD Farm.
ABUAD Ventures and the ABUAD Farm implement the ABUAD Ethical and Sustainable Procurement Guidelines (“Guidelines”) which lay out the minimum sustainability requirements for products and services purchased by the University and identify those product attributes that are strongly preferred and/or mandatory. The Ethical and Sustainable Procurement Guidelines was effective since January 10, 2018, in place and reviewed on the January 10, 2020 and its due for review on the January 10, 2022. Under the Guidelines, all suppliers are required to reduce or eliminate waste of all types, including water and energy, by implementing appropriate conservation measures in their facilities, through their maintenance and production processes, and by recycling, re-using, or substituting materials.
